Hunter Funeral Held on Monday

Funeral services for Marion J. Hunter were held Monday afternoon at two o'clock from the Primitive Baptist Church with Elder B. E. Baker of Charleston, former pastor here for thirteen years, officiating. The congregation joined in singing three favorite hymns: "Asleep in Jesus,", "Some Sweet Day" and "How Firm a Foundation." The pall was carried by John Sanders, Luke Corder, Ed Norman, Joe Malcolm, J. Finley and J. Milton Norman. Flowers were carried by Mrs. John Sanders, Mrs. H. Malcolm, Mrs. Robert Forster, Mrs. Alf Wallace and Myrtle Walker. Interment was made in Rose Hill Cemetery.


M. J. Hunter Died Saturday

Marion J. Hunter passed away at his home at 1007 West Goodall St., Saturday afternoon at two o'clock at the age of 79 years and 16 days. He was a native of Williamson county and spent all hips life here, mostly in Marion.

He was born to Allen and Elizabeth Lee Hunter, Jan: 13, 1859. In 1,887 he was united in marriage to Miss Carrie Grant, who died in 1892. To them were born a, son and daughter, both of whom survive their father, namely: Mrs. Martin Weinacht and Benjamin. J. Hunter.

In 1894 he was married to Miss Florence Dial and to them were born five children, of whom one - Orpha -died in infancy. Surviving are Mrs. Lee Chamness of. Marion, Mrs. Dilly Hall of Carbondale, Mrs. Giibert Hill of Marion and Mrs. J. Thomas Moake of West Frankfort. A sister - Miss Phila Hunter - also survives.

For twelve years Mr. Hunter was a Justice of the Peace and for four years served as Police Magistrate. He was a highly esteemed citizen, a member of the Primitive Baptist church, and a life-long Democrat.

Funeral services were, held this afternoon from the Primitive Baptist church on North Van Buren street, with Elder B. E. Baker of Charleston, Ill., officiating.



He was married to Caroline Maria Grant (daughter of Wyatt Stinson Grant and Mary Ann "Tennessee" Lee) on 2 Nov 1887 in Williamson County, Illinois.(851) Caroline Maria Grant was born on 7 Nov 1865 in Williamson County, Illinois. She died in Aug 1893 in Williamson County, Illinois. She was buried in Lake Creek Cemetery, Williamson County, Illinois. Marion Jacob Hunter and Caroline Maria Grant had the following children:

He was married to Sarah Florence Dial (daughter of William Dial and Orphenia Ann Smith) on 1 Apr 1894 in Marion, Williamson County, Illinois. (852) Sarah Florence Dial was born on 27 Apr 1873 in Six Mile Prairie, Perry County, Illinois. (845) She died on 25 Jul 1950 in Williamson County, Illinois.(853) (845)


SECOND ANNUAL DIAL HUNTER REUNION HELD

Sunday, May 17th, the second annual reunion and basket dinner of the Hunter-Dial families was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George W. Hunter at 1400 North State street, in the city of Marion, Illinois.

Friends and relatives from a number of towns were present. A great feast was spread at the noon hour and it is needless to say that everyone enjoyed the day.

One of the many pleasing features of the day were the excellent accordion selections rendered by Lee Martini of Herrin, Illinois. Mr. Martini is certainly an artist in his line.

Dial, sons Howard and Harold, daughters Anna and Helen, and Williamson Dial of Benton; Mr. and Mrs. Willis Manning of Carterville; Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Hunter, daughters Evalene, Lucile, Jeanette, Rosealee and son Robert, and Mrs. Susan Powell of Johnston City; Mr., and Mrs. J. C. Stewart and family, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Karnes and daughter Patricia Jo Ann, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde M. Lewis, Harry Dial, Mr. and Mrs. H. R. Dial, daughters Ruth, Laura, Nancy and Katherine, sons Eugene, John and Billie, and Mr.and Mrs.Hugh Moore of West Frankfort.


Marion Jacob Hunter and Sarah Florence Dial had the following children:
