Obituary: Charles Raymond Moake - Deseret News 11/9/2000:

Our loving father and grandfather, Charles Raymond Moake, 75, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, at home surrounded by his family of natural causes.

Charlie was born on October 9, 1925 in West Frankfort, Illinois, the second son of John Thomas and Dollie H. Moake. He graduated from Marion High School in 1944. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1944 and was stationed at Clearfield Naval Base, where she met his sweetheart, Gloria. He married Gloria Gehring, on June 12, 1945 in her parents home in Salt Lake City. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on March 15, 1957.

Charlie worked as a Journeyman Plumber in UA Pipe Trades Locals 19 and 57, where he worked on several large construction projects throughout Utah. Charlie and Gloria moved their family from Holladay to Provo in 1972 where they owned and operated Moake Trailers. Charlie was well known for his hard work and integrity. Dad made friends everywhere, even strangers would feel comfortable talking with Dad as he seemed to have something in common with everyone. Many came to him for advice and counsel.

Charlie joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1954. He served in the Sunday School and Young Men programs working with the youth, until his stroke in 1989. At the time of his death he was a High Priest in the Grandview South 14th ward in Provo.

Charlie's stroke left him paralyzed on his right side and without his speech. His will to recover amazed his doctors as he fought to maintain his independence. He exceeded all expectations by learning how to walk again. He was a true teacher and example to all of us.

Charlie is survived by a large family, six children: Marilyn (Bob) Wagoner, Ferron, Marjorie (Don) Roscher, Provo, Steven R. (Helen) Moake, Orem, Connie (Chris) Jensen, Idaho Falls, Karen (Karl) Soerensen, Provo, Todd R. (Cheryl)

Moake, Spanish Fork. He is also survived by 36 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, two brothers, John Thomas Moake, Riverside CA, and Donald Melvin Moake, Holladay, UT. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria, parents, a brother Marion Lee Moake, a sister Juanita Moake Smith and a daughter-in-law, Mary Moake.
