City Walk – Chelsea Market, NY

Strenuous. Hike to and see the restored Chelsea Market. The building originally was the old Nabisco plant, where in 1898, the Oreo Cookie was born. Also hike to Staten Island ferry which we will ride. Walk is 9 miles long, but flat.

Ringwood Meander

Moderate. Depending on the weather, we will traverse a variety of trails, including the Cooper Union Trail to Governor Mountain. overlook. Conditions may require crampons or snowshoes.

Skylands Manor, Parking Lot A, Ringwood, NJ 07456

From I-287 Exit 55: Go north on Ringwood Ave (Route 511) about 7 miles to Sloatsburg Road; turn right for 2 miles to Skylands sign. Turn right one mile to "Eagles Gateway" near Manor House and continue straight to parking lot on left.
From Suffern @ I-87 & I-287 Interchange Exit 15A: Take Route17 north approximately 2 miles to Sterling Mine Road (Route72). Exit right at Sterling Mine Road (becomes Sloatsburg Road in NJ), go about 4 miles. Turn left at Skylands Botanical Garden sign, and proceed as above.

Lake Skannatati Circular

Moderately strenuous. In our loop hike today we will see the Little Cemetery on the Beech trail, the Hasenclever Mine, Lake Askoti and Lake Skannatati. Long Path, Beech, Red Cross, ASB are some of the Trails. Rain, snow or foul weather cancels.

From Suffern @ I-287 & I-87N Interchange exit 15A: Take Route 17 north 4.5 miles to Sloatsburg, NY. Immediately north of Sloatsburg is a traffic light for Seven Lakes Drive. Proceed east on Seven Lakes Drive 7.8 miles. There is a steep downhill entrance road to the parking area on the left side of the road.

Califon to Voorhees State Park

Moderate. A 7-mile hike through historic Califon, then through scenic Ken Lockwood gorge across an old railway bridge. After the bridge we branch right and end at Voorhees State Park. Shuttle Required.

From I-80 Exit 27 (Route 206 South): Continue southward 7+ miles on Route 206 to the Chester area at the intersection of Route 513 (Route 24 on maps - No Route 24 sign). Turn right (westward) on Route 513 and continue 10 mi through Long Valley to Route 512 (Main Street) on the left. (Look for Califon sign!) Turn left and proceed ½ mi across bridge. Bear slightly right on Route 512, one block to Railroad Avenue and RR Station on the right.

AppalachianTrail – Route 17A to Wawayanda

Strenuous. This 10-mile hike on the Appalachian Trail is somewhat long, but is mostly downhill through a very scenic part of Northern New Jersey. Shuttle Required.

From I-287 Exit 55: Take Route 511 (Ringwood Avenue) north about 14 miles to Warwick Turnpike near south end of Greenwood Lake. Continue straight ahead 5 miles on Warwick Turnpike past Upper Greenwood Lake. Turn left at Park Entrance. Ranger Station is ½ mile ahead
From Route 23: Go north to Newfoundland, turn right onto Union Valley Road. (Route 513). Then go northeast 9.3 miles (bear left at Shop Rite Super Market) to intersection of Warwick Turnpike. Turn left.
