Subject: The Saga of a Steel Magnolia in Utah

Hi All,

CANNED! A la Mode email.

Well, I haven't dropped off the face of the earth really. I got to Salt Lake City, more or less okay. I even found my apartment without too much difficulty. But....when I cabled my computer system together, Juno wouldn't let me have my InTheWind account. Why didn't I write earlier? Beats me. I think I've got altitude willies cause I'm sleepy all the time. At any rate, it's as good as an excuse as I could come up with. After a number of spirited emails to Juno, they sent me another work-a-round last Friday that actually worked and I was able to access my InTheWind account. I must say that there were more than a few letters waiting and I have decided to make this first part of my letter a canned message in order to not have to tell the same story many times.

The actual trip was not bad. The only problem showed up in Laramie. The lesson learned was: if you are driving a car with Japanese innards, never get stuck in Laramie. It took four days for them to get the wrong part in. Needless to say I handled the problem and made it out here on time. The ultimate solution? Well, I have a Bronco 4x4 now. Kinda cute if I do say so myself. Katherine describes the truck as 'awesome' and 'cavernous'. I like it, too. We have been up into the mountains a number of times to check it out and I have to say that it more than passes the test. Look out any place within 300-400 miles for weekend trips. The Little Red Hen has arrived. Off roading in Utah will never be the same again.

My job at Lockheed Martin is turning out to be interesting for different reasons. The new software took me all of a week to figure out and then another week to get good at it. What's a girl to do for a challenge? You can email me at work if you like at: jnoble@slc.unisysgsg.com (please remember that this is a major defense contractor and all incoming communications are subject to inspection).

Weather out here is great. Highs in the 90's sometimes and the humidity is nonexistent. They tell me that the last few weeks have been very humid, but I can't detect it. Compared to Hatboro, this place dry, dry, dry! I love it.

Scenery. Well, the mountains are spectacular. The Wasatch Range is in my back yard. The fly in the ointment? Go into Netscape and look up Utah Seismicity maps and check out the number of earthquakes on a daily basis that occur in Utah. If you want, I'll send the url for it cause I check it every day.

And best of all, a mile down the road is a drive in with the worlds best chocolate milkshakes. They are so thick that they stand up a good inch over the top of the cup. Denney's in Beaumont, Texas, was the worlds best, but no longer. Now the title belongs to the Burger Bar in Layton. We got chocolate marshmallow banana shakes Saturday, it was heaven.

We saw 'Independence Day' Friday night. It was a slick film. We will probably go see it again. Lots of action, all kinds of things blowing up, witty dialog, and the good guys win. What more could you want?

Tonight we went over to Hill Air Force Base and saw the 'Tops In Blue' in concert. Great music. Actually, Hill AFB is across the street from my apartments so the drive was maybe 5 minutes. They have some neat planes going over head.

Katherine and I are having severe kitty withdrawal.
