Removing and Maintaining a Wig:

Removing the Wig:
  • Loosen the adhesion with either Bond Off, Spirit Gum Remover or Acetone (nail polish remover). Do not pull on the lace! Use the blunt end of a 3" hairpin and slide it under the lace to release the glue.
  • Pull out the big anchor pins and the small hairpins. Sometimes using a 3" hairpin prongs as a plucker is easier to get at the pins to remove them.
  • Slide your thumbs back behind the ear and under the wig and lift the wig up and forward.
  • Place a cloth in your hand behind the wig lace and use a natural hair brush to clean the glue off the lace with acetone. This must be done each time after the wig is worn.
  • Place the wig on a stand and make sure none of the lace or hair is caught up under the wig. Using quilting pins (the ones with the colored bead at the end) or corsage pins, anchor the wig to the wig block only in the very top scalp of the wig, never in the front lace.
  • Comb or brush the wig before leaving it. Perspiration and tangles are not a good thing.
