Welcome!!

As usual, I'm behind in updating, but in addition to my usual slate of procrastinatory excuses, FrontPage 2000 ralphed all over my home page, forcing me to recreate it from scratch.  While I've not changed  a lot yet, I am going to be experimenting some with fonts and layouts.  If you're currently seeing this page in reliable-yet-boring Times Roman, click here to download a zip file with a few Windows fonts.

Site Features

Film & Literature--I've added some pictures to the Amadeus section; whomever sent them to me, many thanks--your e-mail address got garbled somehow, or I would have sent you my thanks directly.

I'll be renting the new Hamlet and Titus in the next month or so; I'll be incorporating the modern Hamlet into the existing essay--I'm not sure what I'll do with Titus.

Bialystock & Bloom--nothing new, sorry.  However,  if I can get my hands on the version of A Midsummer Night's Dream with Mickey Rooney as Puck, I may compare that with my Warner Brothers version and the more recent film.

The Glass Teat--Taking a quick look at several season finales--The West Wing, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, ER, and Frasier.  We'd better hope that these shows don't falter, because the slate of new shows for this fall looks most underwhelming.

The Traveler's Book Bag --Damnit, no matter where I go, I always find a used book store...

Links--well, you know...

About Me--More useless information than in the first six questions from Who Wants to be a Millionaire?

In the Pipeline...
  • I'll be seeing the Ethan Hawke Hamlet in the near future--I'll update the Hamlet section accordingly.  Also someone has told me that both the Burton and Kline versions are now available on video--it may take me a while to track them down, but as soon as I can I'll incorporate them into the discussion.

  • Branagh's Love's Labours Lost is come and gone, garnering very mixed reviews.

  • Deniro.  Russo.  Alexander.  Moose.  Squirrel. The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle has arrived.  It's great fun, though the perky FBI agent sets my teeth on edge  (Here's a fun thought--cast Jodie Foster in a parody of Clarice Starling.  God, I'm evil.)  What does this have to do with literature, you ask?  Well, they once spent a full thirty-minute episode setting up an incredibly bad pun on "The Rubyiat of Omar Khayam."  Close enough for me.

  • Looks like I'll have to wait to see Titus until it hits video--I just never found myself in a town where it was playing.  To tide myself over, I've been watching Fox's new comedy Titus (no relation).  Not only is this damned funny, but Stacy Keach is having waaay too much fun playing the psycho-father from hell.

  • X-Men is a pretty good movies.  It might be worth the trouble for me to take a look at a couple of comic adaptations at some point.

The Current Theme:

In which we discover, tragically, that there are limits to Tim Burton's genius, damnit.
