A Small School
I stopped a while in a small school
children scribbled and computed
laughed
played
grew in wisdom and grace ----- some did
some did not
Children became their parents
became their good parents
became their bad parents
became their missing, imagined parents
grew in wisdom and grace ----- some did
some did not
Children who were poor or rich
mingled
learned lessons of spelling
math
life
tolerance
love
grew in wisdom and grace ----- some did
some did not
I have cried over, prayed for, and learned from
Children of a small school,
and
When we had given all the other could receive,
I left.
