SAND ASSOCIATES is a unique firm established in 1979 to meet the training and technical assistance needs of nonprofit and government agencies, no matter what these needs are.

The key word for SAND ASSOCIATES is flexibility. We can undertake very large projects; we can do very small ones. We can lead training programs and provide technical assistance. We can help for a day, a month, a year. Our clients are large and small, local and national, well known and newly formed.

Our Associates have extremely broad backgrounds and areas of expertise. We are especially strong in management-related areas such as grant writing, fund raising, board development, program evaluation, strategic planning, organizational analysis and supervisory training. We offer a comprehensive management review under our Nonprofit Organization Review of Management (NORM) program.

• Assistance to Community-Based Organizations
  We have provided an extensive variety of services to nonprofit groups including training and technical assistance in such areas as board development, fund raising, grant writing and strategic planning.

• Grant Writing and Grant Management Program
  Our firm offers comprehensive services including seeking, writing, and managing grants from government agencies, foundations and businesses.

• Services to Statewide Associations
  Because of our Harrisburg base, we can provide special services to associations in areas such as strategic planning, non-dues income development, membership recruitment and legislative analysis. A separate brochure outlining our services to associations is available on request.

Each project will be coordinated by Michael A. Sand, founder of SAND ASSOCIATES. Mr. Sand has had an extensive career that began in 1966 when he served as Program Planner for Philadelphia's anti-poverty program and then Assistant Director of Montgomery County's anti-poverty program. Before founding SAND ASSOCIATES in 1979, Mr. Sand served as Executive Director of the Community Action Association of Pennsylvania, Deputy Director of the Pennsylvania Bureau of Consumer Protection, and Administrator of the Law Bureau of the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission. Mr. Sand is the author of How to Manage an Effective Nonprofit Organization (Career Press, Franklin Lakes, NJ, 2005). He leads workshops throughout the United States in areas such as Strategic Planning, Grant Writing, Fund Raising and Effective Supervision.
