"Rabbi" Gershom Sizomu of the Abayudaya community. Gershom is grandson of community elder "Rabbi" Samson, husband of Tziporah, father of Daphne and brother of Joab "JJ" Keki. He lives on Nabugoye Hill outside of Mbale, Uganda, just feet from the Moses Synagogue which he, Tziporah, Joab and others from the community's early '80s "Kibbutz movement" build with their own hands. Gershom is the headmaster of the community's school, Semei Kakungulu High School, which is open to Jews, Christians, Muslims and all other children of the surrounding area. He is a guitar player and writes music for the community. Gershom speaks Hebrew, leads the community's religous observances and is the Abayudaya's mohel. His dream is to study Judaism in the West and be officially recognized as a Rabbi. |
