One of my favorite parts of the tour was the 13 mile long trail that weaved through Glenwood Canyon along the Colorado River. Interstate 70 and railroad tracks also run through the canyon.
Here's a shot of the bike trail and I-70 running along side the Colorado River. We rode our bikes down through the canyon on day 2 and rafted down through it on day 3 - our day off in Glenwood Springs.
We did stop and take time off our bikes to cool off. And cool off we did. The water was a numbing 38 degrees. It was great to watch the other riders' expressions as they ran down and dove into the unexpectedly cold water.
This is a picture of the bike trail as it weaved through the canyon under I-70. The trail is on the right side of the river. The railroad tracks are on the left. And I-70 is all over the place.
The engineering work that it took to run I-70 down through the canyon was impressive, but the real beauty started when I-70 and the railroad took off in their own direction and we were left with only the peacefulness of the river and the mountains.
