After the idea of cycling across the United States by bicycle got stuck in my
head (thanks, Julie!) I decided it would be wise to first go on a shorter tour
hoping that this would give me some first hand experience and better prepare me
for a longer trip. Besides, my boss was a little more willing to give me a
week off than 3 months. Since I love the Colorado mountains I chose the
Red Robin Bicycle Tour of Colorado
It was a 7 day tour: 6 days of riding and 1 day off, that crossed 6 mountain
passes and covered 440 miles thoughout the beautiful Colorado Rockies.

The route we took mainly kept us on the highways, but we'd occasionally hit a stretch of bike trail that would get us away from the traffic and the noise and really let us enjoy the scenery. Above is a portion of the bike path that goes from Breckenridge to Frisco.
The following pages tell a little about my trip:
If you're interested in doing a trip,
Adventure Cycling offers maps, books, tours, routes and rides for
bicycling in the U.S. and internationally. And the
National
Bicycle Tour Directors Association has information on how to contact
many of the annual cross-state rides.
The 1997 Red Robin Bicycle Tour of Colorado was a benefit ride for the
Make-A-Wish Foundation of Colorado
