Robert H. Jones organized a company called the "Fireside Defenders" on August 4, 1861 at Silver Creek, near Rome, Georgia. Robert H. Jones was elected Captain of the company, and when it was mustered into service as Company G of the Twenty-second Georgia Infantry, Captain Jones was elected Colonel of the Twenty-second.
