Staff Additional Support Board of Trustees LESLIE FAERSTEIN, EdD, CSW, President, received both her advanced degrees from Columbia University. She is a licensed social worker in the state of New York and has a private practice specializing in women's issues. She was the founder and former Executive Director of a non-profit mental health clinic focusing on the special needs of women, particularly eating disorders and post-traumatic stress disorder. She also was instrumental in founding the Federation of Mental Health Centers' Managed Care Organization and was its CEO for 7 years. In addition to her practice, Dr. Faerstein currently works as the Executive Director of Musicians on Call. THOMAS R. FULD, Founding Director and Vice-President, brings to Healing Works thirty years of experience as a senior level executive in advertising and more than twenty years of experience as a board member and funding consultant for a variety of not-for-profit cultural and health-related organizations. Mr. Fuld served as Executive Director of "We See Face to Face: Homeless People With AIDS," an AIDS awareness and educational program. Mr. Fuld previously served as President of the Board of Trustees for the Jean Cocteau Repertory Theatre of New York. He has also been a trustee on the board of the Hudson Guild Settlement House in New York City. Mr. Fuld is a trained meditation facilitator in private practice in New York City, offering individual and group sessions. DALE MCNULTY, Treasurer, is a successful businessman and management consultant. He held a seat on the New York Stock Exchange for more than 25 years. DONNA FRANKEL, Secretary, is a healer and psychotherapist in private practice. Ms. Frankel is very active in the planning and production of Healing Works' annual Fall Gala benefit, for which she draws upon her prior experience producing events at the Palladium in New York. DELORES DERESZEWSKA, CSW, serves in a volunteer capacity as Healing Works Coordinator of Resources. In addition to overseeing the Individual Services department, including administrative supervision of social work interns, she provides guidance in the management of all program areas. Ms. Deresewska has an over thirty-year career in social work, and has held key positions in several New York-based social service agenciesmost recently, as a coordinator in the mental health department of Covenant House working on a FEMA-funded 9/11 research project. J. J. HARWAYNE LEITNER, ESQ., is an attorney at Gilbert, Segall and Young, LLP. She specializes in advising non-profit organizations on topics such as corporate governance issues, and general corporate and contract matters. JOAN POELVOORDE, CSW, Founding Director, is a psychospiritual counselor in private practice in New York City. She is also a co-founder of the Helix Training Program, which, for twenty years, has provided a four-year course of training in psychospiritual counseling. Ms. Poelvoorde received her Masters of Social Work from New York University in 1976. She studied Gestalt Therapy at the Foundation for Religion and Mental Health in Briarcliff Manor, NY and hypnotherapy with Milton Erickson. Ms. Poelvoorde was a co-founder of the New York Milton H. Erickson Society for Psychotherapy and Hypnosis (NYSEPH), and served as an officer of that organization from 1980 though 1984. NICOLE THOMPSON, has recently relocated to New York City after a successful career in the hospitality business spanning more than a decade. Between 1991 and 2001, Ms. Thompson worked as a meeting and event consultant for G. Brodrick and Associates in Atlanta, GA. Prior to that she held several positions with the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company in Atlanta, including assistant to the SVP of Sales & Marketing. She is currently an assistant with Lazard Asset Management and her responsibilities include database management, travel and event planning and special marketing projects for the Private Client Group. Ms. Thompson has a B.A. in Business and Finance from the University of Georgia. THE REVEREND JULIE ROSA WINTER, Founding Director, has been a psychospiritual counselor and teacher for more than thirty years. She has done pioneering work using mind-body techniques to support emotional and physical wellness. Her practice has always included those who are physically challenged and at risk. Reverend Winter is a minister of Universal Science of Mind, a non-denominational group. She is currently in private practice in New York City. Reverend Winter teaches meditation, leads on-going healing circles and conducts workshops in the United States and Europe. She is a co-founder of the Helix Training Program, which, for twenty years, has provided a four-year course of training in psychospiritual counseling. She also provides organizational counseling for not-for-profit organizations. Among her many areas of responsibility at Healing Works, she oversees the development of new programs, special events and public relations efforts. SHARON M. CADIZ, Ed.D, is Senior Director of Agency-wide initiatives for Project Return Foundation, a NYC-based not-for-profit human service agency. She is also former director of a treatment center for dually diagnosed women and their children and was the recipient of the Mary McLeod Bethune Recognition Award from the National Council of Negro Women. She currently heads a special federally funded study of women with co-occuring disorders who have histories of violence and trauma, and maintains a business in wellness and lifeskills seminar production called 747 Seminars. FRANCIS X. CLIFTON, PhD, is a psychologist and founder and director of the Faran Center for Mental Imagery and Psychotherapy. The center works with cancer patients on an emotional and noetic level. He is the co-founder of the American Center for Mental Imagery and a founding director of the Center for Intentional Learning. Dr. Clifton has conducted workshops on the use of imagery in England, Greece, Israel and Japan. He is the author of a forthcoming book, Cancer Visible and Invisible: Practicing Health Using Imagery. KAREN ERICKSON, DC, is a member of the Beth Israel Medical Continuum Center for Health and Healing. She is an honors graduate from New York College of Chiropractic and she has 12 years of clinical chiropractic experience in private practice. She was formerly a research assistant in biochemistry at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and at the Scripps Institute of Oceanography. Shw has guest lectured on chiropractic care at Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons and Beth Istrael Hospital. LOUISE L. HAY is an internationally recognized author and pioneer in metaphysical writing. Her books, among which are You Can Heal Your Life, and Heal Your Body: The Mental Causes for Physical Illness and the Metaphysical Way to Overcome Them, have been translated into many languages. THE REVEREND IONE SONAM LLAMO is a psychospiritual counselor and teacher in private practice in New York City and Rhinebeck, New York. A successful artist as well as healer, she is the author of Pride and the Family and the play, NJINGA, which was featured at Lincoln Center's outdoor program. She is a graduate of the Helix Training Program in Psychospiritual Counseling and is on the board of the Pauline Oliveros Foundation. MARY LEVENSTEIN, ND, PhD, author of Everyday Cancer Risks and How to Avoid Them, is a psychotherapist and naturopath in private practice in Princeton, NJ, and an ordained interfaith minister in the Church of World Service. She lectures on the mind-body connection and teaches imagery and meditation workshops at the Breast Cancer Resource Center at the Princeton YWCA and SHARE NEW YORK. She is a graduate of the Helix Training Program in Psychospiritual Counseling and of Bernie Segal's (Love, Medicine and Miracles) Exceptional Cancer Patients training program. LAWRENCE B. PALEVSKY, MD, is the pediatrician for the Beth Israel Center Continuum for Health and Healing. Dr. Palevsky uses an integrative approach in his practice, combining theories of western and eastern medical practices. Nutrition is a major component of his work. ELAINE D. RETHOLTZ. L AC, is an acupuncturist in private practice in New York City. She is on the staff at Rivington House Health Care Facility, where she works with patients. CAROL SHYER, PhD, CSW, is licensed Social Worker in private practice in New York City, specializing in Womens Issues. She received her Masters of Social Work from Adelphi University in 1980, a certificate in Psychoanalysis from The Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy in 1988, and a Doctorate in Psychology from The Union Institute in 1996. She was founder of the COAP Program, one of the first such programs for children of alcoholics, where she served as Director from 1981-1983. Presently at Healing Works, she is responsible for the clinical supervision of Social Work Interns, as well as the orientation and interviewing all prospective volunteers. ROBERTO VILLOLDO, PhD, is a classically trained medical anthropologist who has studied shamanic healing among the descendents of the ancient Incas for over 20 years. The author of over 10 books, including Shaman, Healer, Sage, he teaches energy medicine to medical professionals all over the world. FRANCES WEINSTOCK graduated from Brooklyn Law School and has been a practicing attorney for over 20 years. Her specialties include family law, real estate, and landlord-tenant disputes. She has been an uncompromising advocate for underserved populations in Brooklyn, especially in Williamsburg. LINNIE YORK is a health care marketing and business development consultant, published poet, mother, writing instructor, and member of the Eckankar clergy. |
