Adam barks into the voicemail box.
Jensen, Smith and Ibrahim look up.
“I really wanted that call. I wish you’d told me earlier.”
Jensen: Don’t worry.
Smith: If you missed the call
Ibrahim: then you just were not meant to get it.
Jensen: You see...
things all happen for a reason.
Smith: In the proper season
Ibrahim: everything will turn out fine.

and Jensen, Smith and Ibrahim
kick their heals and flounce their clothes
in a jolly Can Can.

Ibrahim: * When life seems nasty and depressing,
Smith: consider it a blessing.
Jensen: part of God's design. (Oh yes it is)
all three: ‘Cause things all happen for a reason.
In the proper season
it will turn out fine.

Jensen: I came in late to work one day.
The IRT'd set me aback
when they shut down all the trains
to scrape some jumper off the tracks.
Smith & Ibrahim: SHE WAS set aback
to scrape some jumper off the tracks.

Jensen: And though I lost two hours pay;
I managed somehow to evade
a fired worker who'd returned
to set off lots of hand grenades.
Smith & Ibrahim: LUCKY to evade
a whole boxful of hand grenades.

all three: ‘Cause things all happen for a reason.
In the proper season
It will turn out fine.

Smith: When I got home late last night.
I saw my wife leave with the car,
credit cards and stereo,
my best friend Dan and the VCR.
Jensen & Ibrahim: WIFEY took the car,
best friend Dan and the VCR,

Smith: Then I went down to the tracks.
I saw a horse named Speedy Dan.
I put my money on his nose.
Paid six to one at Meadowlands.
Jensen & Ibrahim: THAT NAG, Speedy Dan,
six to one at Meadowlands.

all three: ‘Cause things all happen for a reason.
In the proper season
it will turn out fine.

Ibrahim: When I was a little boy
Americans drove up in Jeeps.
They burned our crops and shot my dad.
They raped my sister and the sheep.
Jensen & Smith: YANQUIS all in jeeps
raped his sister and the sheep.

Ibrahim: Then we had no food at home.
We could not last another day.
Bribed the guards at border towns.
and came here to the USA.
Jensen & Smith: COULDN’T LAST one more day.
Came here to the USA.

Ibrahim: Went to school. I studied hard.
Got a job and combed my hair.
I’ll work my fingers to the bone.
Some day I’ll be a millionaire.
Jensen & Smith: CUT OFF all his hair.
Soon he’ll be a millionaire.

all three: SO...
When life seems nasty and depressing;
consider it a blessing,
part of God's design. (Oh yes it is)
‘Cause things all happen for a reason.
In the proper season
Ibrahim: it will turn out fine.
Smith: part of God's design.
Jensen: all just peachy keen.
all three: We just don't know what it means.
