Title: The Whole of the Moon
Author: Doyle [doyle@ntlworld.com]
URL: archive.shriftweb.org/archive/22/thewhole.html (as of 1/7/04)
Summary: Christmas in England, and Dawn's growing up.
Spoilers: Season 7
Rating: PG-13   Length: "short"
Pairing: Dawn/Faith ["not porny"]   RW: n/a?

Where rec came from: BBF, 1/6/04; "fenwicus" <fenwic@sbcglobal.net>; Aura [annegirl11@juno.com]
What they said: fenwicus - "Seconded. Wonderful Dawn voice and I was surprised at how well it sold the premise. Thanks so much for the rec."; Aura - ":) I know what you mean about the premise. I've read a bunch of Dawn/Faith stories, they're good if you believe Faith would be a total cradle robber and Dawn would go after someone so dangerous. But Faith's reaction was more tolerant than interested, and comparing Dawn's Spike-crush to a Faith-crush helped bridge the gap. And Dawn's coming out was so ... Dawnlike (read:spaz) that her thought process was believable."

Title: Glass Towers
Author: psychofilly [rr1013@ev1.net]

Summary: "Where were you at ten o'clock on the night of the twelfth?" [author]
Spoilers: AtS S5
Rating: NC-17   Length: short
Pairing: ?   RW:

Where rec came from: BBF, 1/22/04; "Laura Andrews" <landrews@carolina.rr.com>
What they said: Reccing this because it's so interesting to see this offering come across at ACangst just a couple of days after "Kindreds". This story has none of the annoying copyedit errors of "Kindreds" and a single POV. Reading it, one would think it had been written by someone else altogether. This is a *very* dark little suspense mystery. Psychofilly uses one unexplained plot device in the person of a character long gone from the show, but does it unabashedly, right up front, and with good characterization, so I, personally, can ignore it. The story is well-structured, down to the final punch. About the middle, I went, damn- this is so out of character- I don't get it. Well, the laugh's on me, folks, 'cause this is one twisted tale- a take-off on a very classic storyline we've all read several versions of, but Psychofilly did a good job of freshening it up for the Whedonverse.

What they said: Carolyn Claire: This is a beautifully written depiction of Xander's thoughts and experiences during his solo travels through Africa in search of new slayers.  The Xandervoice is wonderful, the writing is flawless and the research really shows--very richly detailed, and very moving.  Run to see this one, and encourage her to write more! [Seconded, thirded, fourthed, fifthed -- didn't write down comments but it was praised all around, especially for the Xander voice and "Scooby history."]

Title: The Snow Queen
Author: Doyle [doyle@ntlworld.com]
URL: http://www.moracle.co.uk/angelbod/archives/win04/doyle.html (as of 2/29/04)
Summary: Another trip down memory lane... :o). This is a well-written adventure plotfic that fits neatly into canon, foreshadowing included. It reads very much like an episode (my favourite). There's a well thought-out plot, the dialogue is top-notch - both Cordy and Gunn sound just like themselves - and I love this story for the countless witty details. The Cordelia in this story kicks ass but isn't the infallible superhuman one occasionally encounters in fanfic.
Spoilers: none, Timeline: early S2, after First Impressions.
Rating: PG-13   Length: 13,600 words
Pairing: n/a   RW: n/a

Where rec came from: BBF,
What they said: 2/25/04 Astrid vohwink <vohwink@muenster.de> [see summary above]; 2/26/04 Sally <APostModernSleaz@aol.com>: Absolutely seconded. Pitch-perfect voices, hilarious and fabulous to see Queen C and Gunn kicking butt, and too many fabulous little touches to name. Wonderful, wonderful fic; "Katy" <queenmab@sweetmadness.net> [2/27/04?] : This was fan-frickin-tastic.  So excited about it that my "third" should count as a "fourth" as well.

Where rec came from: BBF,
What they said: 2/23/04 "lakrids404" <lund9000@sol.dk>:
Many are probably already familiar with this story, because it arrived nearly just after, hers other excellent BtVS fanfic. The story is dark, and that is perhaps an understatement. But it is very subtle done. And the writer, instead of telling the reader, does the writer show more and more fragments, of the picture she paints. Which forced me to reread the story, to get all nuances with.

What they said: 4/5/04 Debra Doyle <doyledebra@earthlink.net> (original rec); 4/5/04 "Yseult deBreton" <yseultdb@yahoo.com> Yes, absolutely seconded. Wonderfully written. Each word means something and the overall effect is like watching a car crash. The story could turn this way or that way and be something completely different. 4/5/04 Sigrid: Seconding, or thirding, or whatever it's up to now. Absolutely wonderful.
4/5/04 APostModernSleaz@aol.com: Enthusiastically fourthing (or whatever). One of the best stories I've read in a while. Perfect blend of humor and bitterness, and such an obvious-yet-clever setting. Just wonderful.

Where rec came from: BBF
What they said: 3/22/04 "vohwink" <vohwink@muenster.de>: Dark and beautiful. Kita captures the essence of Angel in the relationships with those who matter to him the most. I can't really describe it, best read for yourselves; "Laurie Andrews" <landrews@carolina.rr.com>: kay! Guess I'm breaking my own rules regularly now <g> LiveJournal... good. Ya'll are *never* gonna get me to do WIPs, though!! Know this isn't official until it's archived elsewhere but strongly seconding! Kita is a lush and vivid writer and this has a dreamlike prose that flows along with her theme. Worth the trip; "lakrids404" <lund9000@sol.dk>: Second, And wow, Kita can really write Angel, in a way so that the reader, does get shown all his internal discrepancy, that are the basic of
Angel's character (man/monster, father/rival etc.); "atozmom" <a2zmom1@yahoo.com>: Seconded, thirded, whatever. All I can say is Gah. Almighty Gah, even. Kita writes Angel in all his 3-D complexity. Stunning language, stunning insights. Go, read.

It's just great. 5/8/04 "Koos van Winden" <van_winden_koos@hotmail.com>: Seconded. It's hilarious. 5/9/04 "Justin Hurley" <justin4680007@msn.com>: Thirded, or fourthed. Whatever. This is like every random tangent from every episode all rolled into one hilarious ball of fun. The most amazing thing is that it all makes sense. I finally see that BtVS was really just Springer with vamps. Priceless!! 5/9/04 "montiekristo" <montiekristo@yahoo.com>: Be sure to read the sequels, they're pretty hilarious too. What they said: (yourlibrarian) I've delayed posting my intro because my SO has been in the process of completing a prezzie which is _finally_ finished and I can rec it here in good conscience. You don't have to have seen Queer Eye to enjoy it but if you have it will double the pleasure. Give it a try, he's good at the funny.  Really; 5/3/04 "Anne Hedonia" <annehedonia@comcast.net>: Seconded - this fic was hi-fucking-larious, much better than another QE-does-over-Spike fic I've seen out there. This one has every single person's voice perfect (although I had a few teeny quibbles about Thom -- he sounded a bit too much like Carson, but that was my only complaint), and that makes all the peerless one-liners ring even truer and funnier. Seriously, go read. Now. Laugh your ass off;
5/3/04 Astrid "vohwink" <vohwink@muenster.de>: Thirded. Very funny. I've never watched QE, but I could well imagine it. Story's a tad too slow in the middle part imho, but the ending is hilarious, as are the interviews with the rest of the gang.

Excellent diaglogue, very funny at times. At one point or two I thought the story was taking shortcuts, but all in all I found the way the
relationship developed very convincing. I just wish Anna S. would decide to write Angelfic for a change, but you can't have everything.

Part of the wonderful fic challenge for The Day After Tomorrow
(http://www.livejournal.com/users/anniesj/263252.html). After all, any challenge that can make me cry over Saved by the Bell fic has got to be good ;) Anyway, this was a stellar fic and includes the best qualities of the AI gang, even though much of the focus is on Angel and Illyria. But the combination of those two is written excellently and Illyria is done particularly well, with her still coming to grips with the humanity inside the shell she inhabits.
6/4/06 Kita0610@aol.com: Beautiful story, simply told. Doyle excells at these little gems.
