Expo   67   West   Greenland   Replica

Harvey Golden made this outstanding semi-replica for me as a commissioned work.

Harvey's description of materials and construction:
"The Gunwales and Chines are CVG Spruce; the Keelson is CVG Fir; the end-boards are CVG Fir, and the cap-pieces are spruce. The deck-stringers are Fir, the Deck-Beams are a variety of wood-types, mainly light-weight spruce and Port Orford Cedar, except at the cockpit beams, i.e. the load-bearing members, which are Fir. The Steam-bent Ribs are all Eastern Ash. The frame has been oiled with Daly's SeaFin TeakOil-- several coats. All pegs are birch dowels, and the lashings on the upper-frame are of a braided white nylon. The continuous bottom lashings are of a tared braided cord-- heavy duty. The ribs are intermittently pegged to the keelson, away from the cockpit to preserve 'visual' authenticity; this will add years to the life of your kayak. All of the wood except for the masik was tool-shaped, i.e. not sanded. Pretty much all of the joinery was hand-cut, power tools only being used to rip, plane to thickness, and band-saw curves when needed. All the holes (lashings & pegs), tenons, mortises, bevelilng and final fittings & shapings were done by hand."

The "skin" is a 13 oz polyester with four coats of pigmented polyurethane floor finish.
