Lazy Jack Schooner Owners and Enthusiasts Group

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: [How many Lazy Jack Schooners have been built?]
A: [32]

Q: [What material is the LJ32  made of?]
A: [Fiberglass reinforced plastic with wood trim, Boomkin and bowsprit]

Q: [How Much did the new LJ32 cost originally$]
A: [About $43000 ready to sail away according to a 1985 Nautical Quarterly article. Of course, options would have a substantial impact on the final price.]

Q: [Are there any new fiberglass schooners in  production currently?]
A: [Not that I can find, However the Cherubini 48 is available as a semi custom boat (They have previously built boats to the design) and I'm sure additional designs could be custom built in fiberglass.]

Q: [What size crew is needed to cruise the LJ32?]
A: [Two including the Captain is ample for daylight only sailing. The boat has been sailed single handed (I don't recommend it).]

Q: [Does the LJ32 sail well with the foresail (middle sail) dropped?]
A: [Yes - We've sailed the LJ32 in light and strong winds with the foresail down. It sails well in either case. Dropping the foresail is a good first step for reducing sail area. The LJ32 can also be sailed on the foresail alone.]
