Please be ready to respond promptly to subsequent email broadcast from Big John.  If you know for sure you are in or out at the present time, please let us know now.
NOTE: The outfitter has already booked, with deposits, a large party during our time frame.  He currently can handle another party of six to nine people although he has only carved out livestock, bunk space and staff for 6 guaranteed participants for our group.  Six are now committed, so our ability to add additional participants will depend on the outfitter's capacity to handle the un-guaranteed additions at the time.  Right now he can work with us on the additions, but down the road that could close out.  So don't delay if you intend to go.  contact John at H (404) 255-4775 Cell (678) 576-2027 or e-mail at johnm@mindspring.com

Driving Directions

Click pictures for larger view

Take I-80 East out of SLC.  About 20 miles into Wyoming, turn left onto US 189 North.  Proceed approximately 125 miles to town of Daniel.  About 2 miles north of Daniel, turn right onto US 187 East.  Proceed about 5 miles to Hwy 352, turn left heading North.  (Note: at this junction you could stay East on Us 187 for another 6 miles to the town of Pinedale for last minute supplies, TOPO maps, fishing lures, etc.  Keep in mind you need to be at the ranch before sundown.)  Heading north on Hwy 352 proceed through small town of Cora (4 to 5 miles) and on to Turn Off about 15 miles.  At Turn Off there should be a sign to the DC Bar Guest Ranch.  Follow signs for next six miles on dirt roads to cabins.  Click map for enlarged view.

You can visualize this trip as having three components:

1.  Two one night stays at Tim's DC Bar Guest Ranch on each end of the trip.  Both are Saturday nights and will feature a near gourmet evening meal and a hearty breakfast.

2.  The Drop Camp.  After an early Sunday morning breakfast we will take all vehicles to the trailhead at Green River Lakes.  There, Tim will have his wranglers and stock ready to pack and ride.  Horseback to Slide Lake where we camp and day hike Sunday, Monday and Tuesday then return to lower Green River Lake campground on Wednesday.

3.  Thursday, and Friday we can explore the area around Green River Lakes campground.  A couple of day hikes with fishing in the feeding creeks and in the river itself as well as hikes to a couple of water falls and a natural bridge are available.  Saturday we would return to Tim's ranch for a stay that night before returning to each of our origins.  Pinedale Ranger District.  To call with questions 1 - (307) 367-4326

Green River Lakes

The northernmost of the Bridger Wilderness trailheads is located just off the northwest shore of Lower Green River Lake. It offers two large parking areas for backpackers and equestrians, corrals, potable water and toilet facilities. The trailhead is adjacent to the Green River Lakes Campground. Access is provided to the Highline Trail, which is part of the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail, the Clear Creek Trail, Roaring Fork Trail and Porcupine Creek Trail. To reach the trailhead from Pinedale, drive 7 miles west on US Highway 191, turn right (north) on Wyoming Highway 352 and drive north to the National Forest boundary where the pavement ends (about 30 miles). Continue north on Forest Road 600, staying on the right side of the river. After 17 miles the road terminates at the campground and trailhead.

1.)  Looking upstream from Green River Lakes, the Green river and Square Top mountain are seen in the back ground.  The trail head starts here. 2.)  On the East side of Green River Lake is the trail that leads to Clear Creek.  Above Clear Creek falls and in the Clear Creek Valley, enters Slide Creek.  We take the Slide Creek trail upstream increasing altitude as we go.
4.)  Flat Top mountain, seen here, is not the same mountain as Square Top in the picture above left.  Slide Creek enters Clear Creek from the right.
3.)  Foot log crossing Clear Creek to get to Slide Creek trail
5.)  The long rock slide on Slide Creek  6.)  After about a 6 or 7 mile horseback ride we reach Slide Lake where we camp Sun., Mon., and Tue. nights returning to Green Lake campground on Wednesday.

  7.)  Fishing at Slide Lake

8.) Looking up the Slide creek drainage, to left of Lost Eagle Peak, is the route to Popcorn Glacier.

About a 5 mile hike hopping boulders.

9. )  Glacier Area- These glaciers feed Baker Lake, seen in the picture, which in turn feeds Slide Creek.  Tim said the glaciers are reachable but the rout is fairly difficult.  There is no trail.  The likely rout is following the Slide Creek drainage up to Baker Lake.

10.)  Another day hike from Slide Lake is to follow Tree Route up to a saddle between Lost Eagle Peak and White Rock.  The high elevation saddle presents an excellent viewing and photo point as it overlooks the Green River Valley and mountain peaks beyond.

11.)  Panoramic views from the Saddle and White Rock

12.)  After returning to Green River Lakes campground from Slide Lake there are numerous day hike and fishing possibilities.  One is a hike up to the Clear Creek Natural Bridge, passing Clear Creek Falls on the way.  On the return rout the trail on the west side of the lower Green River Lake can be taken for variety.
