Boxford State Forest (Bald
Hill Reservation)

Boxford State
Forest (also known as Bald Hill Reservation) is a great
ride with a wide variety of trails. A combination of tight singletrack
and one of the most fun fire roads going make this a great ride for all
levels. Beginners might find some of the rocky climbs and descents a
little over their heads, but all else rideable. All other levels will
have a blast.
Trails to check out:
- Trailhead
8A (found off the main fire road, not on the trail map.) - Starts with
narrow singletrack, ends with a rocky technical section.
- Good
jump by the road near trailhead 20A (Picture above, 20A is also not on
the trail map, but is near the road not far from trailhead 20.)

- 'Nike
Site' - A good place for a swim during the summer months. There's a fun
jump (see above) followed by a steep, loose chute on the rim of the
Nike Site as well (see below.)

- The main fire
road back toward the entrance when coming from the Nike Site.
There are a couple of ripping technical downhills. Not to be missed!

- Singletrack
without a trail marker on the right when heading back from Nike Site to
the Middleton Road lot - Tight and twisty with a nice technical
section. At one point you have to make a 90 degree turn then ride onto
off-camber slickrock at the top of a very short, steep climb (see
below.)

- Revolutionary
War soldier gravestone - Take a left at trailhead 11 when riding out
from the Middleton Road lot, the stone will be on your left about .25mi
down.
This is a great
spot for night riding, but don't park in the Middleton Road lot.
The Boxford police will ticket any cars parked there after sunset. It's
also a good place for winter riding if the snow's not too deep. Check
out pictures and a small jump video here.
Boxford State
Forest trails make up part of the Bay Circuit
Trail.
