Many projects at The Play Yard are self-conceived and self-driven. For example, this paper sculpture came after the child had on many occasions tried to vertically tape tubes (which often fell over) and roll many different-sized paper tubes, but in less sculptural form. |
This child is taping to the table a paper string made from the edging of computer paper. First she taped end-to-end segments of the edging to make a string, and then she taped the string to the table and shelves. She communicated to other children how to go over rather than under her construction so it wouldn’t break. |

Children dance around the yard wearing crowns and holding wands they made from fronds and sticks. They planned this goodbye party together with their teacher for one of their friends. |
