What is Podwogging?

Podwogging (n) The act of walking and/or jogging in time to music played on portable MP3 music player

Why this site?

Portable music players (pods) make ideal exercise companions—if you have the right music, in the right order. Podwogging is dedicated to showing you what music to put on your pod for a wide range of workout goals—from light walks to pulse-pounding jogs.

I’ve put together a bunch of playlists based on the pace of the songs in my music collection, which ranges from the 50s to the new millennium: mostly rock but also funk, folk, soul, and R&B—any pop music with a steady beat. The lists range from light walks to pulse-pounding jogs, and can last anywhere from 15 minutes to over an hour. Each week I’ll be posting a new list on my PODWOGBLOG, where you can add your own playlists and make suggestions on various walking & jogging topics. See my ARCHIVE of playlists, or browse the various topics in the menu bar to learn how PODWOGGING can make exercise fun.

Who needs this site?

Anyone who loves music and wants to use it to make walking and jogging fun. By that I mean listening to REAL music, not the mind-numbing stuff they put on exercise videos with a beat but no soul.

The music spans a range of years and styles, but I must confess—my own tastes predominate. You’ll find lots of rock in all its forms, including Rock and Roll, Psychedelic, Folk-Rock, New Wave, Alternative, Progressive, and Americana/Roots. You’ll also find Jazz Rock, Blues Rock, Punk, Garage, and Metal. Other genres include Country Rock, R&B, Soul, Folk, Singer-Songwriter, some Surf, pure Pop, and occasionally (I’m embarrassed to say) Disco. You won’t find much Rap or Hip-Hop—it’s just not my thing. But feel free to post your own on the PODWOGBLOG.

Anyone who isn’t looking for professional athletic training. Yes, these lists are skewed to an over-30 audience. If you want 60 minutes straight of 180 BPM over-the-top engine revving, or you’re training for a track meet, you probably shouldn’t be here. But if you love pop music and like to mix walking and jogging, check out my lists!

Disclaimer. I only list songs, along with their BPM (Beats Per Minute), on this site. I do not sell MP3s, CDs, or other music media directly.
