In 1991, U2 broke out of their Anguished Anthem mode with a vastly grittier—and personal—sound on Achtung Baby, joining the Industrial music trend to their own brand of ringing rock. They did so with absolutely dead-solid commercial instincts, though—this album demonstrates some of their best pure songcraft, making for a highly enjoyable wogging mix.
