Before jangle-pop and R.E.M. there were the Byrds. These boys did a lot more than make Bob Dylan songs popular; in particular, they put the folk into Folk-Rock, and Roger McGuinn was as revolutionary a guitar player, in his way, as Jimi Hendrix. You’ll have to turn a few back pages to get there, but when you do you’ll feel a whole lot better. These pop classics fly by short and sweet.
