Blues? Check. Garage? Check. Soulful folk-rock? Check and double-check. They wore tight black pants and carried a punkish panache that gave them instant credibility, and they had the musical chops to back it up. With tight, yet incendiary guitar riffs, excellent blues harp, and inventive rhythms, vocal arrangements, and melodic elements, they were as innovative as any rock band on either side of the Atlantic. Yet though they were quite versatile, nobody in the 60s rocked harder than the Yardbirds, as they their two train songs here will testify.
