Hamburg Passenger List

Eastern Europeans emigrating to the United States usually left from either Hamburg or Bremen.  The Bremen records were destroyed during WWII, but the Hamburg records were preserved.  These records are particularly valuable to researchers because they show a specific town of origin, while many of the U.S. arrival records only show the country.  Furthermore, they are indexed by name, while U.S. arrival records for the 1880's are not.

LIST of the persons, who in emigration to America via Liverpool are committed through the undersigned, and are transported by the steamship Northenden, Captain Miller, under English flag, first stopping at Grimsby.
Departure of the ship on October 16, 1888.

Here's information about the Northenden  (at www.theshipslist.com) - see Manchester, Sheffield & Lincolnshire Railway Company/Great Central Railway.  I found this through the FAST Search Engine.
