Further postcard views of Hartford

8:

A view of Hartford looking to northeast.  This is the right one-third of a panoramic view which I believe dates from approximately 1913; a similar black and white version:

is available at the website of the Library of Congress  (to see enlarged view, go to site, search for "Hartford Panorama," and choose Item 1.)  Tower on left of color postcard (with gold dome) is Old State House.   Ornate building in center of color postcard is Post Office.

A similar stereoview looking north on Main St. from the website of the New York Public Library.

9:

Undated photo (facing northeast) shows Travelers Insurance Co. Tower in foreground.  (Tower was completed in 1919.)  Main St. is to left of tower. Travelers website has history of Tower along with Peregrine Falcon webcam.

Enlargement shows Front St. running from lower right corner towards upper left and intersecting Morgan St.  Railyard lies to the north of Morgan St..  Note beginning of stone bridge where Morgan St. meets the Connecticut River.  Before realizing the extent of renovation, I had thought that this showed the neighborhood as the Jaffers knew it.  This photo shows warehouses as in card 7, as well as considerable redevelopment to the west.  Another one of my favorite postcards, this demonstrates the detail hidden in old photos which may be discovered with a scanner.

10:

Here's another aerial, facing west, undated (but after completion of Travelers Tower in 1919)

Enlargement showing railroad yard north of Morgan St.

11:

"Bridge over Connecticut River" (postcard is undated but refers to Travelers Tower, completed 1919).  Row of warehouses from photos 7 and 9 no longer present.
