* Died July 30, 1879.

George F. McLeod, James E. Taylor, William F. Blue, F.A. Blue and Norman Statham, citizens of Pulaski when the war began, served with the “Macon Guards” in the Eighth regiment.

In 1874, the resident survivors aided by friends in and around Hawkinsville, succeeded in reorganizing the company, which was completed by the election of the following officers:

Captain, John R. Love; First Lieutenant, Thomas Henley; Second Lieutenant, L.C. Ryan; Second Lieutenant Junior, R.L. Stapler, and the requisite number of non-commissioned officers.  Captain Love died soon after his election, and Lieutenant Henley was promoted to Captain, Lieutenant Ryan to First Lieutenant, and Stapler to Second Lieutenant.  W.R. Taylor was elected Second Lieutenant Junior to fill the vacancy.   The company has applied several times to the State government for arms and equipments but have failed to get them.  In consequence of this failure to procure arms, the members of the company have manifested very little interest in its affairs.

In conclusion, the writer returns thanks to his fellow survivors for their assistance in getting up this sketch.  Also to Col. C.C. Kibbee for access to the files of the old Pulaski Times, from which we have obtained much assistance.  To the survivors and all of our fellow soldiers, we wish unbounded success, and although our cause was lost so far as human eye can see, yet may all feel that under the guiding hand of Divine Providence our privations and sufferings may not have been endured in vain.
