What Is Just Voices?

Just Voices is a community chamber chorus composed of gifted amateur musicians who love to sing without accompaniment. Our concerts include works from a wide variety of a cappella traditions, medieval to contemporary. We sing madrigals, motets, chorales, spirituals, classical art songs, shape-note hymns, vocal jazz, and doo-wop.

Why We Sing Without Accompaniment

The human voice is unique among musical instruments. It is the only instrument that is alive - and the only one that can simultaneously produce both music and poetry. A group of voices singing together a cappella creates a perfect marriage of pure acoustical harmony and clear articulation of the text.

The A Cappella Repertoire

Some of the world's most highly respected composers have created works for unaccompanied voices. In addition, the folk traditions of many countries include songs without instrumental accompaniment. Just Voices is dedicated to bringing these wonderful and seldom-performed works to our audiences.
