last update January 20, 2001

The Navy/General Electric Asbestos Control Program was determined to be non-existent, requiring the expenditure of $30,000,000 on a 10 year asbestos cleanup program. This has been reported to be the largest expenditure of asbestos cleanup funds at a single facility in the history of the Nation. The Navy/GE had reported to the GAO that it had no asbestos difficulties at this Navy site.
