IDAHO SUES DOE/NAVAL REACTORS (NR)

TO GET TRUTH

last update January 20, 2001

The following items have been reported concerning the dealings of the DOE or Naval Reactors with the State of Idaho.

One issue regards a case of lying by a high level Naval Reactors official, and the other concerns the incompetence of the DOE in cleaning a facility in the state of Idaho.

These are the same organizations who are telling the American people that the WIPP facility in the State of New Mexico is safe and who are also in charge of cleaning up sites like Hanford, Rocky Flats. Savannah River, etc. I think the American people are in big trouble with these organizations in charge of the radioactive cleanup for all radioactive facilities owned by the Federal Government. We should at least ask ouselves -- How safe is WIPP?

Item 1

It should be noted, for the record, that Mr. Guida [ a Naval Reactors spokesman] lied to the Governor of Idaho regarding a subject similar in nature to his meeting and speech of July 28, 1997 [held within Saratoga County, NY]. The discussion of that particular lie [to the Governor of Idaho] can be found in: ISBND-16 D43425-4, 103rd Congress, July 28, 1993. The State of Idaho also had to sue the DOE/NR concerning incorrect statements made to Idaho officials concerning the kind and amount of radioactive material that would be sent to that State.

Item 2

A recent article, written by Fredreka Schouten, and published in the Saratogian, concerns an attempt by the Federal Government (DOE) to clean up a single acre of contaminated soil in the State of Idaho. The article states that not a single square inch of contaminated soil has been removed after the expenditure of $179,000,000. The contractor, Lockheed Martin, the same contractor now running the Kesselring Site Operations (KSO) for Naval Reactors, is now requesting an additional $158,000,000 to attempt to clean up the same acre of land.
