Rose

The dawn is pink as Rose who peeks
between the wooden trellis slats.
Not quite four, too shy to speak
to me, a little barefoot brat

dressed in a tee-shirt past her knees.
The blushing roses on the vine
attract the morning bumblebees.
Shy Rose returns a smile for mine.
