The only certain information on John ELDER is 1850 census at the age of
19. A John is mentioned in Civil War records, but no information any-
where else is available.

vi. Vadin Dorris ELDER, b. TEXAS 09MAR1879;
The 1860 census shows G.L. ELDER (at the age of 25) living with
Ann D. Elder (head of household). It is possible that this is G.L.
ELDER's aunt, the sister-in-law or sister of Peterson ELDER. Also
shown in the household was a John W. ELDER age 7?. This could be a
nephew, and possibly the son of John ELDER, the brother of Gilbert.
Gilbert supposedly came to TEXAS looking for brother Pete. If this is
true, then it happened between 1874 and 1879, as all of Gilbert's
children were born in TENN. except Vadin Dorris, who was born in TEXAS
