Wow.. here is our first update of 2010.  I can't believe the first decade of the century is almost history.  But we do have the release of the 1940 census this year !  I do look forward to diving into those.  Some of you might be able to find yourselves in these records.  

I have put some of our information on Ancestry.com.  It has allowed me to mine their files better and locate hard to find records by using their "hints" which searches for matching records.  It has been very helpful.  I am trying to get into the early Virginia census records, but nobody has scanned them yet.  Indexes are hard to find and not even Ancestry has them online yet.

• I believe I have found the evidence to prove that Charles Medaris (5)(4) served in the American Revolution.  With the lost and burned records from the War, his service has to be found through alternative means. I located him on the roster of Chatham County, North Carolina's roster of Capt. Elisha Cain's militia of 1772.  That coupled with his location in 1776 and his children moving to Ohio, in my opinion supports his service.   This was backed up by locating a recreated roster of American Revolutionary soldiers from Chatham County where they also used the 1772 roster to support the soldiers involvement.  These men were given land grants in  Ohio as part of their service pension which is why most of his children moved to Ohio shortly after the pensions were rewarded.
• Added the Will of Abraham Medaris (5)(4).
• Updated Rice Medaris (7) (William H. 6, Rice 5)
• His second marriage to Mary Nichols.  This answered another long standing query from 1997.
• Updated the family of Emsley Thomas Medearis Jr. (8) (Emsley Sr. 7, John 6, Charles 5)

• Started the family of Andrew Medaris (7) (William 6, Charles 5)
• Completed the 1860 and 1870 Illinios Census records.
• Completed the 1870 Iowa Census records.

• Found the details on the death of Abraham Medaris (6) (Oliver 5).

• Added to the 1782 Virginia Tax List which is considered the first US Census.

• Solved our oldest query  from August 1997.
• Started the Michigan, Minnesota and Oregon census records.
• Added quite a few Indiana census listings for all years. Many clues were hidden in these missing records.
• Added the family of Jessie Lee Medaris (7) (George W. 6, Oliver 5)
• This was another 1999 Query we were able to answer that identified Henry Lee Medaris son of Jesse Lee.
  
• Updated the family of William Jefferson Medearis (7) (John 6, Charles 5)
• Including the discovery of a missing son William J. T. Medearis (8) and family. This was another long standing query from 1999.

• I updated my Bio page with a new picture of Cindy and Me.  The other one was about 15 years old.  For some reason I look 15 years older, but Cindy looks the same.
• I have started something that I think many will enjoy.  I have been able to make connections, although indirect, for our line to several famous people in American History.  Several American Presidents, an Outlaw and an Actor.

October 03, 2009

• Added the regimental history of the 2nd Ohio Volunteer Infantry, and details for John L. Medaris (son of Malachi Medearis 7, Thomas 6, Charles 5).
• Added another DNA connection to our DNA Project.  This is a McDaris surname connected from Rice through his son James Andrew.
• Updated and corrected the listing for John S. Medaris (8) (David Tuttle 7, Abraham 6, Oliver 5)
• We have several updates for Massey Chrisman Medaris (5).  I discovered a previously unknown child of his from an apparent first marriage before Celia.  There has always been speculation that Celia was Massey's second wife as he was around 40 when they married.  Are there more children from this marriage yet to be found?  We will have to keep digging for that answer.  I also found hidden in the North Carolina Pensioners list, the actual date of death for Massey.
• Updated the 1850 North Carolina Census, improved formatting of page and added several listings.
• I have added to the 1800 North Carolina, Census.  There was a new member of the family hiding there that may change the tree of some of Rice (5) descendants.  
• New records have placed Abraham (5) in Caswell County, North Carolina as early as 1777.
• Updated the military information for James A. Madaris (8) (John 7, Thomas 6, Charles 5)
