The following families have been confirmed by Census Records or other County or State Records.

Griffin Crook was born abt. 1794 in Virginia. His family moved to North Carolina where Griffin and married Nancy Pennington, 18 Mar 1817 in Wake County, North Carolina. She was born abt. 1800 in Virginia, the daughter of Howell & Margaret Pennington.
     Griffin and family moved to Pike County, Georgia by 1830, Meriwether County by 1840 and was employed as a Farmer in Spalding County, 2nd District in the 1860 Census. 

    Griffin and Nancy had the following children:

      1. John W. Crookborn abt. 1819 in NC
      2. William S. Crookborn abt. 1823 in NC
      3. SGM Agnus Crook (m) born abt. 1824 in NC
      4. Louelen Crookborn abt. 1826 most likely in NC.
      5. Septha Crook born abt 1835 in GA
      6. Pelina Crook (f) born abt. 1837 in GA
      7. Lucious W. Crook born abt. 1857 in GA
      8. Manly G. Crook born abt. 1859 in GA

     Lucious and Manly may be grandchildren of Griffin's. He would have been 63 and 65 at the time of their births. They appear in the family with Griffin in 1860 only. 


Jeremiah Crook was born abt 1790. He resided in Carroll County, Georgia at the time of the 1830 census. Listed in other family charts as the son of James Crook Jr. of Rowan County, North Carolina.  There seems reason to think that Jeremiah and Griffin were closely associated and possibly brothers. Although Griffin is not listed in the known children of James Crook Jr., many other simularities occur.      The youngest brother of Jeremiah is William Crook born abt. 1880. With the naming trend of William in this line of Crooks, it is possible the William is the father of Griffin and the nephew of Jeremiah. Jeremiah later moves to Kentucky and eventually Ohio where he lived until his death.      Jeremiah's family at the time of the 1830 Carroll County, Georgia census was:

John W. Crook (Griffin) was born abt. 1819 in North Carolina. He is listed as a "laborer" in the 1860 Spalding County, census where he resided in the 3rd District. John married Sorepta ???? who was born abt. 1810 in Georgia. They have the following children listed: 

  1. Griffin C. Crook born abt. 1851 in GA
  2. Nancy V. Crook born abt. 1852 in GA
     These children were listed in the household of John W. in the 1870 census. It is suspected that these children are neices and nephews, the children of a brother who died in the War.

  1. Urinny Crook born abt. 1848 in GA.
  2. William Crook born abt. 1850 in GA. He lived in Campbell County, Georgia in 1870. He married Jane ???? who was born abt. 1850, in GA.

     John's mother Nancy also lived with him in 1870 at their home in Carroll County.


William S. Crook (Griffin) was born in North Carolina abt. 1823. He was employed as a blacksmith in Carroll County, Georgia, Flint Hill PO, Fairplay Dist. He married Elizabeth C. ???? who was born in South Carolina abt. 1823.      William joined the Confederate Army on June 22, 1861. Originally organized as Company I, 2nd Regiment, 4th Brigade, Georgia State Troops, William's regiment was quickly redesignated as Company I, 19th Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry, and placed into the Army of Tennessee. This regiment from Carroll County, Georgia was known as the "Villa Rica Gold Diggers".      It is curious that William has two daughers listed as Elizabeth in the census records. This is consistent throughout the records and there is no indication that one of the Elizabeths was a different relation. William and Elizabeth C. had the following children:

  1. George G. Crook born abt. 1848 in GA. lived in Carroll County, Georgia, Villa Rica Dist. in 1870. He married Mary E. Henslee, who was born 20 April 1844 in Georgia and died 03 Oct. 1912 in Carroll County, Georgia. Mary was the daughter of Miles D. Henslee, b. 1814, d. 1894. Mary is buried at New Hope Primitive Baptist Church cemetery,  They had the following children:
      1. William Maxfield Crook born July 1869 in GA, d. Oct. 1882. He is buried at New Hope Primitive Baptist Church cemetery,
      2. Miles Oscar Crook born 31 Jan. 1877, died 11 Nov. 1880. He is buried at New Hope Primitive Baptist Church cemetery,
      3. Erby Crook born 26 Sept. 1883, died 20 Aug. 18??. He is buried at New Hope Primitive Baptist Church cemetery,
      4. Oma A. L. Crook born Apr. 1886, GA
  2. Elizabeth Crook born abt. 1853 in GA.
  3. William H. Crook born abt. 1855 in GA.
  4. Elizabeth Crook born abt. 1857 in GA.

  6. Susan B. Crook born abt. 1869 in GA.
  7. John R. Crook born July 1872 in GA. He married Linnie Strickland on 12 Oct 1901 in Douglas County, Georgia. Elizabeth C. lived with this son in Douglas County in 1900. 

Louelen Crook  (Griffin) born 26 Sept 1827, died 18 Aug 1901. Louelen shows in the 1830 Douglas County, Georgia census in the community of Fairplay. He lived in Carroll County by 1860 but was employed as a farmer in Coweta County in the 1870 census. In 1880 Louelen and family had moved to Meriwether County, returning to Coweta by 1900. Louelen married Sarah E. Pennington, born 26 June 1837, died 14 Aug 1917. She was the daughter of William Henry and Mary Elizabeth Coggin Pennington.     Louelen joined the Confederate Army on March 10, 1862. He was a Private in Company C, 35th Regiment, Campbell County, known as the "Campbell Rangers".  He was wounded and admitted to the 1st Georgia Hospital on June 27, 1862. He was transferred to Hanlietere's Co. of Joe Thompson's Georgia Artillery, as a Private, on February 09, 1863. He is listed as deserting this unit on January 11, 1864. He returned to the 35th Regiment, Company C, and was captured at Petersburg, Virginia April 2, 1865. Louelen was released at Hart's Island, New York June 15, 1865 after spending only 2 months as a POW. Louelen and his wife Sarah applied for Confederate Pensions in Coweta County, Georgia listing his service in the Artillery Unit.       Louelen and Sarah E. Crook are buried in the Bethel Methodist Church Cemetery in Senoia, Coweta County, Georgia.  They had the following children:

      2. John P. Crook born abt. 1860 in Georgia, married Emiline Kelley
      3. Ozwell Crook born 16 Feb. 1861, died 18 June 1922. He married Jennie Pettile Higgins
      4. Savannah Alice Crook born 26 Feb. 1862, died 14 Nov. 1925. She married Charles Hatton, 02 Nov. 1882 in Coweta Co.Ga. She is buried at Bethel Methodist Church Cemetery in Senoia, Coweta County, Georgia.
      5. William Crook born abt. 1866. He married Alice ????
      6. Griffin Crook born October 1869.
      7. Telilah (Leolah) Crook born December 1872
      8. James Odius Crook born June 1877

John P. Crook (Louelen , Griffin ) born abt. 1860 in Georgia, married Emiline Kelley born abt. 1863 in Meriwether Co., Georgia. They were married 30 Nov. 1882 in Meriwether Co., Georgia. They had the following children:

    5. Willie Mae Crook, died 22 Aug. 1956 in Coweta, GA. She married (1) ???? Reed, and they had the following children:

Willia Mae married (2) Henry Frank Tenney, 19 Sept. 1920 in Coweta, GA. They had the following children:

  1. Effie Crook, born 18 Mar 1896 in GA, died 31 Mar. 1911 in Coweta, GA
  2. Howard Harry Crook, born 09 May 1900 in GA, married (1) Hester May, born 6 Feb 1920, died 18 Feb 1977. They had the following children:
      1. David Crook born 1 Sept 1944
  3. Hugh Crook, born 09 May 1900 in GA, died 21 Apr. 1966 in Newnan, Coweta, GA. He married Lois Chappell, 14 Jan. 1923 in Coweta County.


Ozwell Crook (Louelen , Griffin ) born 16 Feb. 1861, died 18 June 1922. He married Jennie Pettile Higgins, born 14 July 1862, died 17 Mar. 1956. They were married 27 Dec. 1882. They are buried in the Senoia City Cemetery, Coweta County, Georgia. They had the following children:

  1. Arthur Crook, born 06 July 1884, died 02 April 1957. He married Carrie Lula Moody, 13 Dec. 1905. She was born 24 Jan. 1881, died 18 Nov. 1962.

  3. Alma Crook, born 20 Mar. 1886, died 04 May 1905. She is buried at Bethel Methodist Church Cemetery in Senoia, Coweta County, Georgia.
  4. Arry Lee Crook, born 19 Feb. 1888, died 20 Jan. 1980. He married Leola Mae Addy 15 Dec. 1912. She was born 27 Feb. 1887, died 01 Dec. 1973. They had the following children:
      1. Julian Lee Crook, born 18 Oct. 1913. He married Laura Walton .
      2. Florence Edith Crook, born 20 April 1915, married Ray Shelnutt Sewell, 13 Aug. 1936.
      3. Alva Lee Crook, born 11 Jan. 1917, married Miriam Lester 06 Sept. 1940.
      4. Hugh Dorsey Crook, born 21 Jan. 1919, died 31 July 1964, he married Phyllis Byrnes, 01 may 1945.
      5. Wilbur Ellis Crook, born 01 June 1931, married Patricia Yarbrough.
  5. Mattie Crook, born 24 Dec. 1889, married Solon Jackson Owen , 27 Dec. 1907. they had the following children:

  7. Sallie Bell Crook, born 20 July 1892, died 04 June 1948. She married Milton Ballard. They had the following children:
      1. Robert Finley Ballard, born 27 April 1912, died 26 Oct. 1957
      2. Jennie Lavern Ballard, born 21 Oct. 1915, married Eugene Harris.
      3. Emory Paul Ballard, born 05 Aug. 1921
      4. Dorothy Bell Ballard, born 31 Aug. 1929, married Edward McKemie.
  8. Ophilia Mae Crook, born 14 July 1895, married Boyce Yancey 12 Mar. 1921. They had one child:
      1. Boyce Memory Yancey, Jr., born 03 Aug. 1927.
  9. Mamie Lou Crook, born 04 Oct. 1896, married Perry David Williams, 05 Dec. 1915. They had the following children:
      1. Mary Virginia Williams, born 05 April 1917, married Charles Seagraves.
      2. Dean Lester Williams, born 15 Feb. 1921.

  10. Annie Sue Crook, born 17 Feb. 1898, died 24 Nov. 1933. She married William Coggins. They are buried in the Senoia City Cemetery, Coweta County, Georgia.
  11. Catherine Dennis (C.D.) Crook, born 28 July 1900, died 16 Oct. 1975. She married McPherson Berrien Eve Moore, 14 Jan. 1928. They had one child:
      1. Berrien Eve Moore, Jr., born 04 April 1929.
  12. Hewlette Alexander Crook, born 28 Dec. 1901, died 27 Jan. 1935.


William Crook (Louelen , Griffin ) born abt. 1866. He married Alice ???? born abt. 1867 in Georgia. They lived in Coweta County in 1900. They had the following children:

Griffin Crook (Luelen Crook , Griffin Crook ) born 31 Oct 1869, 4 Sep 1943 in Fayette Co., Georgia. He married 1) Emma Delk on Dec. 21, 1901, 2) Ida Entrekin on Feb. 22 1903. Griffin is buried at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery in Brooks, Georgia. It is located on Woolsey Rd, in Fayette Co.
     Griffin and Ida had the following child:

  1. James Roy Crook, b. 15 May 1904 in Georgia, died 12 April 1992 and is buried in Sherwood Memorial Park, Jonesboro, Ga. He married (1) Annie Maude Tenney, daughter of Leck Tenney and Stella Britt. James Roy and Annie had the following children:
  1. Roy Crook Jr. born 24 April 1924 in Senoia. He married Annie Elizabeth Sanders in Oglethorpe County, 12 Jan. 1947. Annie was born 06 April 1924 in Oglethorpe County, GA. Roy and Annie had seven children
  2. James Hiram Crook, born 19 Feb. 1926 in Senoia, GA, died 12 June 1983 in DeKalb County, GA, and is buried Andersonville National Cemetery, Andersonville, GA. He married Raydean ????. They had the following children:
      1. Brian Crook
      2. Paul Crook
    Annie Maude died 24 January 1930 and is buried in the Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Senoia, Georgia. After her death James married (2) Ruby ????, (3) Ida McCauley (4) Ida King.   James and Ida King had the following children:

  2. Hubert Griffin Crook

     After the death of Ida Entrekin, Griffin married 3) Ada Morris. She was b. 26 Oct. 1879, d. 13 Nov. 1960. Griffin and Ada had the following children:

      4. Edna M. Crook
      5. Cathrine Crook, married ???? Barrow
      6. Katie L. Crook, possibly died at birth.
