Zachariah Maddera, will, 1752 Microfilm is scratched, impossible to read some sections

     In the Name of God Amen I Zachariah Maddera of the parish of Southwark and County of Surry in Virginia being
at this time in health and of perfect mind and memory thanks unto God Therefore calling into mind the mortality of my body
and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make and Ordain this my last will and Testament that is to say
principally and first of all I Give and recommend my Soul unto the hands of Almighty God that gave it and my body I
recommend to the Earth to be buried in Decent Christian Burial at the Discretion of My Executor or Executrix nothing
doubting but at the General Resurrection I shall receive the same again by the Mighty power of God and as touching such
Worldly Estate wherewith it has pleased God to Bless me in this life I Give Demise and dispose of the ????? in the following
manner and form
I Give unto my loving wife Johanna the sole use and benefit of the plantation where I live and the ???? of the Labour of three
of my slaves namely Roger, Tom and a Negro ..........if she does not marry, if my wife should marry again then
..............Roger to said son James Maddera.........and do pay unto my Grandson, Zachariah Maddera five pounds
when my said Grandson comes of age

I give unto my son James the plantation whereon he lately lived to him and his heirs
I give unto my son John the plantation whereon he doth live with two Negroe slaves, Dick and Jack to him and his heirs
I give unto my son William a piece of land on the South Side of ???? Swamp known by the name of Goodman's and two
Negroes, one called James and the other named Scipio and one feather bed and fumiture to him and his heirs
I give unto my daughter, Lucy one Negro Girl called Suchey one feather bed and furniture
I give unto my daughter Priscilla one Negro Girl named Sue and one feather bed and fumiture
I give unto my daughter Martha one Negro Girl named Fanny and one bed or five pounds current money to buy one.
I give unto my daughter Ann one Negro Girl named Isabel and one feather bed and furniture or five pounds current money to
buy one.
I give unto my son Joel one Negro Woman named Patt with her increase and my Negro Boy named Bob and the plantation
whereon I now live and one feather bed and furniture or five pounds current money to him a bed to him and his heirs
It is the true intent and meaning of my will that if either of the Negros that I have given to my last four daughters die that then
my desire is and I do hereby then give what daughter whose Negro shall die the Negro Woman Rose at such time as I give my
Negro Man Roger to my son James and it is further my desire that is either of my children that I have had by this last wife
should die without lawful heirs of their body that then their Legacy given them shall be equally divided among the Surviving
Children that I have had by my said last wife and it is further my Will and desire that all my children have their freedom and what
I have given them when they shall come of age eighteen or married.
My Will and desire is that my wife have and enjoy all the Remainder my Estate not already bequeathed let it be of what kind or
???? ever during her natural life for the Raising my children and after her death it be equally divided among our children except
her son John who has had his part already.
My further Will and desire is that the Court may not order my Estate be Appraised or that they may give my wife any trouble
about it. I having given it away ????? ??????.
I do hereby nominate ??? and appoint my loving wife Johanna Maddera and my son John Maderra my whole and sole
Executors of this my last will hereby making null and void all former wills by me made ????? of all which I have written by my
hand this fourth day of March in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred fortyeight

At a Court held for Surry County  the 12th day of February 1752
     The aforewritten last Will and Teastament of Zachariah Maderra deceased was presented in court by Johanna
Maderra and John Maderra the Executors therein named who made oath there according to Law and the suritie was proved
by the oath of Henry Saridge and Ann Thompson two of the witnesses ??? and by the Court ordered to be recorded ?????
of the said Executors ??????? of ??????
