FORMER L&N RAILROAD

"HOOK & EYE LINE"

Cleared of 20 years of growth.

A segment of the former Louisville & Nashville line known as the "hook & eye" has been re-opened by volunteers from North American Rail Car Owner's Association (NARCOA) and friends of the Georgia Northeastern Railroad (GNRR). The out-of-service section ran between Ellijay and Blue Ridge in the extreme northern part of Georgia (USA). The 20 miles of track had been out of service for more than 20 years. Work started in March, 1997 and ended in September. While track work remains to be done before trains can run, at least track maintenance vehicles can travel the rails.

The work was done at the invitation of the Georgia Northeastern Railroad Company, Inc.
