Dalton, the Carpet Capitol of the World, is served by CSX and NS. Both parallel each other through town. There are depots for each railroad but only NS still uses theirs. As the lines come into town from the north (see photo), trains pass the CSX depot (now a restaurant), a CSX interlocking plant (unmanned), and the NS depot, still with "Southern" signs. CSX controls the crossing which is called "Hair" by NS, "Dalton" by CSX. In the photo, a UP engine pilots a coal train on NS. It's headed south, and is about to cross the CSX tracks. You can see the the NS depot in the upper right. The photo was taken from the Gordon Street Bridge, one of two over the tracks. Next to Cartersville and Kennesaw, Dalton is third busiest and if you're lucky you can see trains from each road running in both directions within a couple of hours.
