I was out for a walk, reveling in the greenery. Pure green is actually quite rare in the Bay Area-- a treat we get for just a few months between bare and yellow/brown (both of which have their own beauty). Rain has fallen nearly every day for a couple of weeks. Flowers were pushing through the fresh grass, and everything looked lush and hydrated. Wow!
But then.... I spotted the saddest-looking cactus. It didn't look lush; it looked waterlogged. Not everyone loves the spring.
The ongoing quest to find the Universe in this grain of sand.
My life-- and perhaps yours, too-- feels like an accretion of knowledge and relationships, each layer settling down on the whole to change and be changed by what is already there, and to lay the foundation for what is next.
One thing we can do is observe the process of life. In doing so we seek a balance between pushing forward too fast and holding back against the inevitable next change.
My roots are in the physical sciences. And my interests extend outward to art, biology, athletics, culture, and psychology, as well as inward to consciousness.
But this blog isn't about theory. It's about the knowledge we have access to right here in the trees, the cars, the bathtub, our job, tonight's casual dinner conversation, and indeed in tonight's dinner.
