Secondary Core Message of the Book of Mormon: Avoiding the Nephite Disease
The Book of Mormon opens with the impending destruction of a mighty nation and people, the Jews at Jerusalem in 600 BC, and closes with the vivid description of the total destruction of another civilization - the Nephites in the Promised Land of the Americas a 1,000 years later. Scattered between the 531 pages of the book are numerous examples of the kinds of mistakes these people made that led to their final war of extermination in 385 AD. The compilers of the Nephite record make a special plea to the future inhabitants living in the Promised Land, to avoid making the same mistakes they made, otherwise, they stand to suffer the same fate as the Nephites had suffered.
