BLUES/FUNK

King Johnson may not exactly be blues royalty, but they're definitely more than just court jesters. Mixing New Orleans funk and earthy jazz into its down and dirty style of blues, the Atlanta-based band has been gaining comparisons to such famed artists as Little Feat, Dr. John, Van Morrison and James Brown. Mardi Gras may have been two months ago, but folks in the Upstate will get a chance to experience it all over again if King Johnson comes anywhere near to living up to the excitement displayed on its latest album, Luck So Strange. King Johnson will perform Saturday, April 21 at Gottrocks in Greenville. For more information, call (864) 235-5519.   Dan Armonaitis
