Luck So Strange
King Johnson
(Steamtrain 103)

King Johnson is a horn-driven blues band with some straight up funky riffs, great vocals and an overall vibe that makes you wanna shake your groove thang. Man oh man, when Lisa Love at Georgia Music Hall of Fame told me these guys were one of her favorite bands, I thought there must be something there. After all, Lisa hears about as much new music as me, and she knows how to wade through the trash and the so-so acts, and the wanna be's, and latch onto a good thang when she hears it. She was right. This album kicks. "19-20-21" may be my favorite track, but truth be known, I dig 'em all. Thirteen tracks, number thirteen being the title track, "Luck So Strange." Hmmm...Lucky 13. Yeah baby, yeah. This is a good one.   —Michael Buffalo Smith
