KING JOHNSON - What a magical feeling it is when you put on a band's album and immediately realize that they kick major ass. Such is the case with Atlanta, Georgia-based King Johnson. Led by Oliver Wood (brother of MMW bassist Chris) on guitar and vocals, buoyed by an unrelenting rhythm section, and snazzed up with horns, this is down-home, swampy, greasy, New Orleans-style funk with plenty of variety. Their newest disc, "Luck So Strange", has an irresistible sound that you will not be able to forget. From James Brown horn blasts to gritty delta blues to soulful R&B, they do it all masterfully. They tour heavily in Georgia and surrounding states like North Carolina, Virginia, and South Carolina.
