My Fishing Reports
Unless otherwise mentioned, these reports are for West Point Lake. They are colored by my personal preferences ( I guess most are). No reports on live-bait or deep-water fishing (I fish almost exclusively with a fly rod - usually shallow water), no reports that include far-flung locations on the lake (unlike some "bass-masters" on the lake I don't like to "set the water on fire" while racing from one spot to another), and no catfishing reports (`though I'm dying to catch one of those big carp on a fly).

5/26 - Yellow Jacket - 5 PM - Memorial Day - still much traffic. Fished hard back in coves with no luck at all. Fish weren't shallow, on points, or on deep banks. Couldn't even find whites from yesterday. Fished poppers, clousers, sink line in channel - nothing. At 8:30 moved to bridge rip-rap. Wind had died and most boats & jet-skis gone. Fished popper on upstream corner - nothing. Rounded corner and BOOM-BOOM. Fish were lined up and waiting for me! From 8:35(yes, I looked at my watch, as I'd been fishing three hours without hit) to 9;10, I caught 14 (mixed LM & spots). Most were typical WP size, 15-17", but they were strong and feisty. Apparently, they were as frustrated by all the traffic as I was. Most fish took popper while moving, moderately fast, about six feet from bank.

5/25 - Yellow Jacket - 5:30 am. White foam 2/0 popper. Great sunrise on bridge rip-rap. 6 largemouth, 4 over 16" and one 19". All were tight on rocks - if popper landed 2' off, no strike. Best was when popper hit rocks and bounced in water - they were all over it!

Moved to deep cove after sunup - hunting largemouth in shallow, but found white bass schoolies. Only swirling occassionally on top and wouldn't take popper. Switched to sinking line with peacock mylar & deerhair clouser(streamer) and caught `em til I got tired of it. Hoped to find black or hybrid mixed, but no such luck. Moved across to leeward side lake of lake (wind getting stronger, slight drizzle). Found small yearling largemouth almost like whites on other side.

Wind and traffic picking up so I tried rip-rap again on way in about 11,but the party was over.

5/18 - Yellow Jacket - 6 am. White foam 2/0 popper. Lots of small fish(14-17") on rip-rap early. Missed large fish in back of cove. (by 10:30, all the Beavis-buddy-Bassmasters "setting the water on fire" had lake like small hurricane was moving in - WP Lake is a great place to fish, but not on a pretty Sunday).

5/13 - Fished Yellow Jacket - 3-9 pm. 3 very nice keepers and numerous smaller bass, plus a kamikaze bream who impaled himself on my popper. 1st good fish off rip-rap at Cameron Mill Rd.

Went up river, then back into hooked cove above pumping station. Took 19 1/2" near creek inlet in back of cove - guy was leaving cove as I came in; said he'd done no good with top-water, but he was fishing buzzbait. Mine hit popper (2/0, chartreuse foam) on dead stop. Maybe they wanted it slower than buzzbait, though fish was strong and fast on fight.

Third good fish 8 pm-ish, off bank in main river channel.

5/8 - Fished with friend at Yellow Jacket - 6 pm. Fish still scattered. Though I hate to admit, my buddy, using traditional tackle, outfished me. First time I think. He caught em on white rooster-tail, on bank to 20' off in 2' to 15' of water. Mine (it was the biggest) to 2-0 popper in chartruese.

4/30 - Fished late PM after work til dark. Weather clear, 70's. Coves and secondary points in coves off Yellow Jacket. Fish still scattered, though moving shallow. Caught them (largemouths) in back of coves very shallow to 20' off bank in 15'+.
