My Fishing Reports - October 97
Unless otherwise mentioned, these reports are for West Point Lake. They are colored by my personal preferences ( I guess most are). No reports on live-bait or deep-water fishing (I fish almost exclusively with a fly rod - usually shallow water), no reports that include far-flung locations on the lake (unlike some "bass-masters" on the lake I don't like to "set the water on fire" while racing from one spot to another), and no catfishing reports (`though I'm dying to catch one of those big carp on a fly).

10/12 6:15 am- Yellow Jacket Creek & river channel - Two good spots off rocky point in YJ before first light. No hybrid apparent at lite; down to McGee - none there either. Fished coves off river - several average-size largemouth (15.9") off bank with white 1/0 popper.

10/11 5 pm - river channel - McGee shoal - took numerous scattered fish - little surface activity, but caught over a dozen medium hybrid, all on sinking line and green/white #2 clouser minnow. Another boat was there catching em with popping corks. As sun set, fish moved in almost to shore.

10/7 6pm - Yellow Jacket Creek & river channel - No hybrid action at YJ. Down river to old McGee shoal - took numerous scattered fish - little surface activity, but caught small hybrid, spots, and a nice crappie, all on sinking line and green/white #2 clouser minnow.

10/6- 6pm - Yellow Jacket Creek - Nice largemouth off bridge rip-rap at Cameron Mill. No hybrid action. Couple of spots at Willowcrest bridge swirling bait on top.

10/5- 7am - Yellow Jacket Creek - Slim pickings. 3 largemouth off bridge rip-rap at first light. Moved to cove looking for hybrid - no surface activity. Took a couple of spots off bank & quit at 11:30.

10/4 - 5pm - Yellow Jacket Creek - In deep cove just off main creek, took 3 hybrid blind casting in suspicious areas, i.e.,water with nervous shad and occassional surface wirls. Fished with sinking line and green/white #2 clouser minnow. First fish was very deep, took very hard on very slow retreive, and made long, deep run. Then he came up and ran me around the boat twice - was near 20". The other two fish were on long shallow bank and took clouser on fast strips - one was 19", other 14". Virtually no schooling, but this is area I've found hybrid in regularly, so they are apparently still there just not schooled up.
