by Karen Lamassonne. Rome, Italy, 1991-93

Limited edition color xerox prints on paper, individually numbered

Argentina, Roma

The Series: The Miss en scène series of nine photocollage works is part of a larger collection entitled "Encuentros Rehechos" (remade findings) created in Rome 1991-93, using 'objets trouvés' (found objects) combined with original photography by the artist.

Teatro Argentina, built by Duke Giuseppe Sforza-Cesarini in 1732, was one of Rome's three main opera houses in the 18th and 19th centuries. In 1816 it was home to the premiere of Rossini's Almaviva, later to become known as Il Barbiere di Siviglia. Today, however, operas are no longer performed there, though it is still used occasionally for concerts.
