Upcoming Shows

Java Monkey Speaks- Kodac hosts & books this open mic poetry reading at Java Monkey coffee house on Church Street in downtown Decatur every Sunday night at 8:00pm. There is a different featured poet every week (404) 378-5002... Java Monkey was named critics choice for "best place to hear spoken word" in Atlanta's Creative Loafing's Best of 2003, 2004 & 2008 issues.

"This event is in my opinion the best Open Mic in Atlanta! The event is hosted by Kodac Harrison, and features some of the most diverse poetry you can find in the city!" Maurice .Walker 7/03

Poet Cecilia Woloch says, "I have been to open mics all over the world and Java Monkey has the most supportive audience I've experienced." 1/04.

Scottish novelist/poet Barry Graham says, "Now that I have performed there [Java Monkey Speaks] twice, summer and winter, I think I might say that this event has the best audience I've performed for. Kodac Harrison holds it all together brilliantly." 2/05.

"This past Sunday, I had the opportunity to visit and participate in the celebrated open mic, Java Monkey Speaks, hosted by internationally touring musician/poet Kodac Harrison. Apart from the diverse voices and styles, Kodac's stature and performance as host are also primary reasons to go. His deep gravelly voice immediately captures and sustains attention-he could read the cafe' menu and still hold your interest; as a host he is warm and inclusive." Mary Chi "Savannah-Poets" 6/15/05

This is definitely where I belong guys. I feel...alive and awakened and impassioned and any other adjective that can describe that night that's available. There really is something almost majestic about a gathering, fellowship even, of people bearing their souls, thoughts and witty poetic structure to everyone. All huddled up together to keep warm, it was so intimate and just....everyone needs to experience this! Seriously, if you have nothing to do Sunday nights, come with me. It is AMAZING.
Above is what Stephanie Morey said about Java Monkey Speaks on her My Space Page after attending on Nov. 23rd, 2008.
