IN MEMORIAM

Fred D. Coughenour, 67, of Connellsville, passed away at his home on Friday, August 18, 2000. He was born Oct. 3, 1932, a son of the late Merit W. and Rilla B. Collins Coughenour. He was a graduate of Connellsville High School in 1950. From childhood until 1963, he was a dairy farmer working on the family farm, which is now Merit Manor. From 1963 until 1995, he was employed by the West Penn Power Co., beginning as a janitor and retiring as foreman of the Transformer shop. He was an active member of the K of C Golf League and the Tri-Scott Bowling League. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Connellsville and formerly a member of the East Connellsville United Methodist church for 40 years where he was a lay leader, church trustee, Sunday School superintendent, teacher and church choir member. He also was a solo vocalist for numerous churches and other special events. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Stevenson Coughenour, to whom he was married for 42 years, a daughter, Charlene L. White, and husband, Daryl, of Indian Head; a son, SFC Russell D., and wife, Kelly, with the U.S. Army at Fort Lee, Va.; six grandchildren, Sara Ruth White, Katie Sue White, Amy Alia White, Kayla Marie Coughenour, Kyle Robert Coughenour and Cody Russell Coughenour; a brother Mace Coughenour, and wife, Madeline, of Connellsville; two sisters, Dorothy Harden of Washington, Pa. and Elda Thompson and husband, Clyde, of Connellsville; a special cousin, Richard Coughenour, and wife, Ruth, of Uniontown; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Clarence Coughenour; a sister, Eleanor Coughenour; and a foster brother, Russell Eugene Riggen. Friends will be received in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME, 111 E. Green St., today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. and on Sunday from noon to 9 p.m. and in the First Baptist Church at 301 S. Pittsburgh St., Connellsville, Monday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.,at which time services will be held with Rev. Larry Hellein officiating. Committal and interment will follow in Green Ridge Memorial Park.
