| Rock and Reel Magazine London, England Spring 1998 by Colin Palmer Originally form Atlanta but now settled in the San Francisco Bay Area, Laura Chandler has panache as a songwriter, constructing melodies rich in clever phrasing, with lyrics more imaginative than most and all delivered in a clear and attractive voice. Although steeped in folk imagery, Mapping Territories is a soft-rocking contemporary album. These nine songs blend jazz, funk and folk with the unmistakable confidence of an artist getting it right. She gets excellent support from Dan Walters and lesser-known talents (glorious sax playing by Robert Passons catches the ear), which leaves little room for complaining. Tuneful, well-produced and filled with intelligent stories, it could net a vast audience if the initial contact were made. |
