Molakai

Moloka`i is best known as the past site of Father Damien's leper colony on the northern shore. "This Old House" has done a show from the island, showing how the old church was repaired.

Now the island is known as the Friendly Isle. There are basic accommodations and marvelous sights to behold in its 38 miles. You can ride a mule down the switch back trail or visit the African wildlife preserve. No buildings are over three stories high.

Mt. Kamakou is the highest peak on the island at 4,961 feet elevation.

Molakai is home to Hawaiis largest outdoors shrine (heiau).

You may feel as though you are the only person on the island at times.

If you love the outdoors and like to take the road less traveled, this is the island for you!

From the Internet Movie Database, the following movie was scheduled to be filmed on Molokai:

Father Damien (1999) ...aka Molokai (1999) (USA: unconfirmed)
