be greatly appreciated. |
CESSCGA Rescue began in 1990 when the club was contacted regarding a young male springer that had ended up in the Cobb County Pound. Finding a suitable home for that young fellow hooked us on helping homeless springers. To date, CESSCGA Rescue has placed approximately 900 springers.
CESSCGA English Springer Spaniel Rescue accepts approximately 80 springers into the rescue program each year. There are more calls for rescue springers, however not all springers are accepted into the rescue program. Should a springer be seriously ill, has bitten someone, or has shown aggressive behavior, rescue will not accept the springer for legal reasons.
There are many good reasons to consider adopting a rescue springer (or any rescue dog). The dog is often older, past the puppy stage of chewing and usually has been house trained. Many springers we receive into the rescue program are obedience trained, crate trained and will walk on a lead nicely. When a springer is adopted from our rescue program, the springer has been thoroughly evaluated. He or she has been examined by a vet, given any necessary shots, checked for heartworms, and neutered/spayed.
During all this handling and examination, the springers temperment is tested. ANY springer exhibiting aggressive behavior is not accepted into the rescue program.
HELP WANTED
GOOD RESPONSIBLE HOMES!
Good homes are always needed. If you cannot commit to adopt a springer, VOLUNTEER to foster a springer until a suitable home can be found. Donations are needed for dog food, heartworm checks, and other needs a springer in foster care requires. Help is always appreciated in grooming, bathing and transporting springers. No contribution is too small. Donations can be sent to:

CESSCGA is not a placement service,
strictly rescue! Our primary concern is in placing a rescue springer into
a loving home environment. Please do not be insulted by the (
).
Certain conditions MUST be met in order to place a rescue springer
into your home. Mixed breed springers are not accepted into
the rescue program. All springers are spayed or neutered as a condition
of acceptance into the rescue program, no exceptions.
There is a fee of $200.00 to offset the many expenses incurred in preparing a rescue springer for a loving home.

1)
Do you live in a home or an apartment?
2) Are there small children in your home?
3) Have you owned a springer previously? 4) Do you fully understand the characteristics and peculiarities of a springer? Literature is available through your local library or we will be happy to answer any and all questions you may think of. 5) Is it your intent to maintain a healthy springer via regular visits to your Vet. for shots, etc.? NOTE: We require all rescue springers be neutered/spayed. If CESSCGA Rescue has the dog in a rescue foster home, we will neuter/spay the dog prior to placement. NOTE 2: AKC registration certificates are not furnished with a rescue springer. We require the potential owner sign an agreement stating this dog was obtained through the rescue program. NOTE 3: Once you have accepted a rescue springer into your home, CESSCGA Rescue will require you sign a TRANSFER AGREEMENT. This agreement states, " This English Springer Spaniel will not be sold, given away, destroyed or otherwise disposed of without first notifying CESSCGA Rescue giving CESSCGA Rescue first option to obtain the dog." The original fee is non-refundable. |

| Eleven years ago when CESSCGA
started it's rescue program it filled a need. There was no ESS rescue in
the southeast at all. Now there are several programs and a lot of confusion
about who is who and what is what is resulting. To clearly draw the lines
between CESSCGA Rescue and ESRA the following policy will become effective
immediately.
1 - CESSCGA will limit it's rescue program to purebred Springers
in the Greater Atlanta area only. If you have any questions I will be happy to try to answer them. Zippy Cooper - CESSCGA Rescue Chairman |
Owners of purebred springers occasionally call CESSGA Rescue attempting to find a home for their springer. We attempt to solve the owner's problem(s) with the springer by recommending steps to resolve their particular problem(s). If the owner is unwilling or unable to keep the springer after exploring all options, CESSCGA Rescue first recommends that the owner advertise the springer in a local newspaper. Failing that, CESSCGA will place the springer on our rescue web site and place the word "placement" beside the "Contact" person. If CESSCGA Rescue is unable to foster the springer and the owner is unwilling to keep the springer until the springer is adopted, CESSCGA Rescue will recommend the owner place the springer in a shelter that we have made arrangements to have the shelter call us upon receipt of any purebred springer. We ask the same questions to the owner about health, shots, spay/neuter, temperament as we ask someone seeking a rescue springer. Any springer that has bitten or growled at a person or displays any other temperament problems will NOT be placed on our site as a placement.
What is the difference between Placement and Rescue?
When CESSCGA Rescue agrees to place a springer on our web site as a placement, we remove ourselves from the loop between the person wanting a springer and the person owning the springer. All contact and arrangements are made between the two parties. CESSCGA assumes no responsibility in the matter of health or temperament and the rules that apply for a rescue springer are not applicable. You may view the rules under the "Please read" link on the main menu for this page.
CESSCGA, Inc. is a non-profit AKC approved club. Our rescue efforts are funded through donations to CESSCGA Rescue. A springer placement on our web site is a service to both the owner and the person seeking a springer. We only ask that you donate to the club to help us offset the expense of the vet bills (and the bills are huge) for other rescued springers.
Questions regarding this policy may be directed to,

CESSCGA, Inc. will discontinue our rescue program effective January 1, 2002. Rescue groups and shelters will be able to contact the national springer rescue group for assistance. I am not certain of how placement requests are viewed by the national group. A link and contact name will be listed here shortly.
Since 1990, CESSCGA, Inc. has rescued and placed approximately 900 English Springer Spaniels. During the last eighteen months to two years, our rescue page has become more of a placement service than a rescue service even though our stated objective has always been one of rescue.
Further information soon.
